At least 8 killed in flash floods in Algeria

ALBAWABA - Local media reported that at least eight people were killed in flash floods that hit northwestern parts of the country. Civil Protection Service said that the victims lost their lives after water drifted into their car in the town of El-Dalyah in Tlemcen province.

The eight bodies were believed to have been swept away by floods on Saturday in Tlemcen and El-Bayadh, according to local reports. Algerian Civil Defense said in a report that the bodies of two women and two men, aged between 22 and 73, were recovered on Sunday at Tlemcen in the northwest.

The search for two missing people who were also carried away by the floodwaters and deluge of Wadi Chedli in El Bayadh continues. The Civil Protection authorities had previously stated that there were two males and three women among the five missing people in the El Bayadh district.

According to an earlier announcement, the search teams have been expanded their efforts with the assistance of five trained dogs from the Ain Temouchent region to help with the search and rescue operations.
