The Ras Beirut Social Committee urged government officials on Tuesday to remove illegal seafront cafes recently built on the Corniche, the Daily Star reported Wednesday.
A committee statement urged officials, especially President Emile Lahoud and Premier Rafik Hariri, to immediately remove the illegal cafes that will increase if no measures are taken, the paper said.
Ras Beirut complained that certain people were setting up cafes extending over at least 2,000 square meters "in clear violation of the law and Constitution and without being prosecuted." -- Albawaba.com
