The body of a scuba diver who drowned 10 days ago in Lebanon was retrieved Wednesday after it showed up on the monitors of a remote-controlled underwater search camera a day earlier, The Daily Star reported Thursday.
The remains of the scuba diver, who drowned while diving with her partner, were finally retrieved near the beach club of the American University Beach Wednesday night.
A search team located the body Tuesday, but a malfunction with the camera it was using prevented it from pinpointing the body’s exact location, said the daily.
The camera, which belongs to the Scorpion, a privately owned Swedish ship, broke down shortly after the corpse was first found.
“The picture showed up for about five seconds before the camera stopped working,” a senior member of the Beirut Police Squad, which was closely monitoring the search efforts conducted by the Civil Defense and the crew of the Scorpion, was quoted by the paper as saying.
However, the team managed to locate the body, which was at a depth of 113 meters, near the edge of a 400-meter deep ravine.
The American University Hospital refused to accept the body Wednesday, claiming it was “too disfigured,” – Albawaba.com
