Lebanon’s Minister of Telecom inaugurates SAMENA’s 'Broadband Wireless Summit 2009’ in Beirut
Top industry experts and decision makers discuss the enormous potential of wireless broadband in MENA Telecom Sector
SAMENA Telecommunications Council, the multi-continent telecom association announced the successful closure of its ‘Broadband Wireless Summit 2009’ which was held at The Phoenicia Hotel, Beirut on March 02, 2009 under the patronage of HE Eng Gebran Bassile, Minister of Telecommunication of Lebanon.
The Summit registered very large participation from telecom stakeholders, regulators and operators from Lebanon and the SAMENA region. Key-note speakers and leaders of the telecom industry addressed the inaugural session including Mickael Ghossein, CEO, Orange - Jordan Telecom Group and SAMENA Chairman of the Board of Directors; Eng Nasser Ahmed bin Obood, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer; Dr. Kamal S. Shehadi, PhD, Chairman & CEO, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) Lebanon; Ihab Ghattas, Assistant President, Huawei Technologies UAE; Philippe Berard, wi-tribe Group Business Development director among others. The discussions revolved around WiMAX, UMB, LTE and their deployment strategies. In addition to that, the Summit also covered various aspects of the wireless broadband industry including standardization of broadband systems, service delivery strategies and network deployment.
Extending his gratitude towards H.E. Eng. Gebran Bassile, Minister of Telecommunications of Lebanon for inaugurating the Summit, Thomas Wilson, SAMENA CEO & Executive Managing Director added, “The Summit witnessed participation from leading wireless industry experts, key decision makers, Regulators and CEOs representing some of the leading organizations in the region such as Etisalat, STC, Jordan Telecom Group, Mada, Cerdarcom, Samsson, Motorola, wi-tribe, Cisco, Huawei Technologies and Mobinil among others.”
Wilson added. “The inaugural edition of the ‘Broadband Wireless Summit 2009’ marks SAMENA’s first event in Lebanon and we are extremely grateful to all the representatives of the wireless industry especially the speakers, sponsors and participants for contributing to the success of this summit.”
