Libya’s parliament has announced a formal alliance with formal General Khalifa Haftar, Reuters reports.
The Libyan government is currently facing multiple armed militias who refuse to lay down their arms and are responsible for ongoing violence across the country, according to Reuters.
Since the fall of Moammar Gaddafi in 2011, the Libyan government has struggled to bring order to the chaos. The warring militias have destroyed Tripoli airport and forced government officials to flee to a boat in Tobruk.
The U.N. recently began negotiations with Libya’s militias in an attempt to end the violence and instability.
