The Associated Press reports that the Libyan navy rescued 117 migrants from a sinking tugboat in the Mediterranean Sea.

Col. Ayoub Gassim confirmed to AP that the Libyan coast guard recieved a distress call on Tuesday near the al-Garabouli district, northeast of Tripoli. The coast guard deployed two boats and arrived at an over-packed tugboat, including six pregnant women.

The coast guard delivered the pregnant women to the hospital in Tripoli for emeregency support and took the rest of the migrants to the anti-trafficking detention center to be processed.

As the weather has improved in recent weeks, thousands of mostly Sub-Saharan African migrants are attempting to cross from Libya's coast to Italy.

In the last week of May, over 1,000 migrants were rescued from sinking boats and rafts by Libyan and Italian coast guards.
