Ice-cream eating and milk shake drinking are just some of the exciting competitions taking place at Ibn Battuta Mall this week as part of the second theme week of Dubai Summer Surprises 2005 - Sweet Surprises.
For the third successive year the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is organising Sweets Surprises during DSS 2005 with more than 150 events scheduled to take place at seven selected shopping malls throughout the Emirate.
A minimum of two competitions and two workshops will take place at Ibn Battuta Mall’s India Court each evening from 5.30pm to 9.30pm. Adults and Children can take part in a range of exciting competitions from ice-cream decoration to chocolate guessing, and from slush glass decoration to pastry eating. Various workshops have also been educating and enlightening visitors to the mall on subjects such as cake decorating, fruit carving, milk shake making and table decoration.
A Sweet Surprises spokesperson said: “The workshops are being held with the objective of imparting knowledge from specialists who are veterans in their fields with the aim of benefiting one and all. The competitions are being held with a healthy competitive spirit amongst adults as well as children at large.
“Join the team of professionals at Ibn Battuta Mall who have put together a list of entertaining activities that will leave you stunned. If you have it in you then you could also walk away with prizes for your skills and competencies.”
With nearly 90% of the events being organised for the first time, the second theme week of the 8th edition of DSS is expected to be a big draw with the Dubai residents and visitors of different nationalities.
Murray Scanlan, Mall Manager, said: “Ibn Battuta Mall has been extremely busy since opening in April and it would appear that DSS 2005 has provided an additional incentive for visitors - each of our six themed courts has been literally heaving with people, excitement and activity.
“Edutainment is very much an important theme at Ibn Battuta Mall; our Storytelling Tours provide an exciting opportunity for the public to better understand the historic value of the architecture, theme and the life of Ibn Battuta, while the Islamic Inventions exhibited in the mall highlight the substantial contributions Islam has made to science, navigation and mathematics. During Sweet Surprises there are also many interesting activities taking place which the entire family can enjoy, including cake decoration and slush glass decoration, but children - and adults - can also enjoy the excitement of an ice cream eating or milk shake drinking contest!”
About Ibn Battuta Mall
Ibn Battuta Mall, a Nakheel project, is located adjacent to Sheikh Zayed Road between Interchanges 5 and 6. The Mall combines retail, entertainment, restaurant and family activities all within a uniquely themed environment. The inspiration for the theme of Ibn Battuta Mall is the legendary Arab explorer Ibn Battuta. The unique design of the shopping mall and separately themed courts are based on his travels through Asia and the Middle East. Each of the six courts is themed on a country and a shopping zone to reflect Ibn Battuta's travels through Andalusia, Tunisia, Egypt, Persia, India, and China. The spacious Mall covering an area of 3.1 million square feet, offers a charming mix of shopping outlets, specialty shops, restaurants, a hypermarket and a cinema Megaplex. Parking space has been allocated for more than 5,000 cars, taking the total site space up to 5.4 million square feet.
