Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, emphasized that Amman Summer Festival, which is to be launched at Al Hussein Parks on 18 July 2010, for the 5th year running, is part of Greater Amman Municipality’s (GAM) goals to extend comprehensive services to the Capital residents and visitors, and to solidify interaction between the citizen and the City.
Maani declared the possibility of holding several activities of the Festival next year 2011 on different parts of the 1st phase of King Abdullah II parks which are expected to be implemented in Al Mgabalein, thus the Festival activities are to be conducted at Al Hussein Parks and King Abdullah II Parks.
Maani added that Al Hussein Parks are completely qualified to host Amman Summer Festival this year, in regards to the space area amounting to 400 dunnums, the breathtaking view, the availability of more than one theatre, and the spacious parking lots.
During the program “With the Mayor” on Hawa Amman FM, the Mayor announced that there is a huge participation on the main theatre by local artists, such as Wissam and Hussam Al Louzi (Al Louzeyeen Band), Saad Abu Tayeh, Met’eb Al Saggar, Jehad Sarkis, Rami Al Khalid, Tawfiq Al Dalow, Tony Qattan, and Yahya Al Sweis.
The play “Sajjel Ana Arabi” (Take Note, I am an Arab), by Hussein Tbeishat, will be performed in addition to other shows by GAM band for folkloric arts, and other local and Arab traditional bands.
During the program presented by Rozin Naber, the Mayor pointed out that many activities and events are to be performed on the children theatre, and the focus of which will be placed on the ages 3-10 years by holding activities including comic shows, trampoline performances, and Al Hakawati (the story teller) tableaus.
Mayor of Amman clarified that the general character of the Festival which will last until 31 July, is a family carnival, free, diverse, and popular, including several singing and theatrical shows and entertaining artistic tableaus with the participation of many Jordanian singers and local folkloric bands.
He also mentioned that about 600 – 650 thousands citizens of Amman residents and visitors from the Kingdom provinces and the Arab countries had visited Amman Summer Festival last year.
The activities of this year include sport activities on the playgrounds of Al Hussein Parks, with interactive participation of Jordan athletes with the children, as well as exhibitions of plastic art, photography and handicrafts.
Activities are to be held daily from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and GAM has completed all the preparations for this purpose, which should attract huge number of citizens, Arab and foreign tourists.
Last year, the Festival was launched under the slogan “100 Greetings”, as it coincided with the centennial of the first municipal council in Amman.
