ALBAWABA - French President Macron has dissolved parliament and called for early general elections following the far-right's decisive victory in the European Parliament elections in his country.

Following the far-right's decisive success in the elections for the European Parliament, President Macron of France has declared the dissolution of the legislature and called for early national elections.

Macron said in a national speech that the June 30 first round of the National Assembly elections would be followed by the July 7 second round. He acknowledged that pro-European parties did not do well in the EU election results and cautioned about the risks associated with the emergence of nationalist movements in France and around Europe.

The center-right European People's Party, along with the Socialists, Democrats, and centrist-liberal "Renew Europe" group, nevertheless has a majority in the European Parliament with 398 out of 720 seats, despite the rise in support for far-right groups.
