The heads of over thirty of the biggest players in the regional and global telecommunication industry are set to come together at the region’s only strategic telecoms conference, Telecoms World Middle East. Taking place between the 4th-7th December, 2005 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Dubai, the event promises to address the key and most topical industry issues whilst delivering a unique experience that steers away from the typical conference by utilizing an interactive ‘talk show’ format – stimulating debate and generating discussion between speakers and the audience.

“This has been a very busy year for the region’s telecom market and as it comes to an end there’s a lot to look back on, and some major indicators of where the region is heading in the next few years,” said Edward Haines, Conference Director for Telecoms World Middle East, Terrapinn. “The conference programme has been developed such that it covers the most important aspects of the future of telecommunications in the Middle East. From strategies for operator growth, to service adoption and broadband technologies to investments in the industry – C-level senior speakers will address these issues and be available for discussions with members of the industry and the media.”

The year 2005 saw significant growth for regional operators. The Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) acquired Celtel International in Sub-Saharan Africa in March this year and Ettihad Etisalat launched Mobily, the second GSM operator in Saudi Arabia. Jordan Telecom launched IP telephony service through its "Livebox". The new Double Play (voice and internet ) service is built around ADSL and  Next Generation Networks, which will provide customers with even more competitive prices for national and  international call.

Haines continued: “The key to the success of this conference is not only the strong content and the focus on current industry topics, but also the profile of the people discussing these issues – the executives who are driving the biggest industry players forwards and setting the strategies. Telecoms World Middle East is not a trade show – it is a three-day stimulating discussion for carriers, ISPs and operators.”

TelecomsWorld Middle East is organised by Terrapinn, publishers of Total Telecom magazine and organisers of the Carriers World series of events. The conference is sponsored by Etisalat, Flag Telecom, France Telecom, Siemens, TeliaSonera International Carrier, PCCW Global, NTT Communications, Lucent Technologies, Arbinet, Telecom Italia Sparkle, Net Centrex, Hewlett Packard and Strom Telecom.
