Director-General of Dubai Municipality Qassim Sultan received in his office on Monday Philippine Ambassador Amable Aguiluz III and Consul Renato P.O. Villa. They reviewed bilateral relations between the municipality and two Philippine cities, according to Khaleej Times.
Aguiluz hailed Dubai’s high urban growth and expressed his desire for further cooperation and exchange of expertise with Dubai. He conveyed to Sultan the interest of the Philippine cities Mandaluyong and Makati to have sister-city relationships with Dubai.
"The meeting we had with the director-general was very positive. We told Mr Sultan that Makati City Mayor Jojo Binay, who is likely to visit Dubai during the Dubai Shopping Festival in March, was keen on meeting him to discuss details on the bilateral relations. He showed interest in our proposal and welcomed the visit of Mayor Binay" Aguiluz conveyed to Khaleej Times.
He added that Mandaluyong and Makati, like Dubai, were considered central business districts. By having sister-city ties with Dubai, both the Philippine cities will learn from Dubai's experiences in the realm of municipal work as well as in other areas. (Albawaba.com)
