Under the patronage of Mr. Marwan Juma, the Minister of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT), the winners of the Jordan Web Awards 2010 will be announced on Saturday, February 20th during a ceremony at the Grant Hyatt Amman Hotel.

The Jordan Web Awards, organized by MediaScope, is the first and only award in the Kingdom recognizing excellence in web design and development. The gala ceremony is attended by over 350 professionals, representing the information technology and marketing communications sectors, including participating companies and freelance web designers.

Zeid Nasser, Managing Director of MediaScope and JWA organizer, said, “This is the fourth consecutive Web Awards ceremony to take place in Jordan, since we first organized this event in 2007. We are witnessing an increasing number of participants, year-on-year. This year, we have received submissions for websites developed for both local and regional organizations and individuals, demonstrating the growing skills and reputation of Jordanian web developers.”

Nasser continued to say, “The Jordan Web Awards is a unique opportunity for Jordan-based website innovation to be showcased, as the event and its results draw local and regional attention, particularly in the run-up to the Pan Arab Web Awards held at Burj Al Arab in Dubai in April, where Jordan Web Awards winners may compete against the best sites from across the region.”
This year’s awards will consist of 26 categories covering a wide number of sectors including finance, e-commerce, fashion, education, health, governmental and non-governmental, media, industry, travel, tourism, transportation and real estate among others.

In each category, three winners will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze. The Diamond Award, the most prestigious and sought after award, will be presented to the developers of the website identified as the best in Jordan. The winners will be selected by a judging committee consisting of experts in website design and development, who will make their selections based on special criterion that is in accordance with international standards. The deadline for submission of entries is the 31st of January, 2010.

The Jordan Web Awards is a member of the Pan Arab Web Awards Academy, led by Pierre Moukarzel, which oversees the organization of local web awards ceremonies across the region in several countries including Lebanon, Egypt, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait, which culminate in the regional competition, the Pan Arab Web Awards ceremony, held in Dubai.

This year’s Jordan Web Awards has attracted prominent sponsors with Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 as the Platinum Sponsor, Jeeran as the Gold Sponsor, and the Silver Sponsors being Arab Orient Insurance Company, eWaseet, Al Ghad Newspaper and Bayt.com. Supporters of the Jordan Web Awards are the Ministry of ICT, int@j, Jordan Computer Society, Ayna, BSA and Microsoft.
