A moderate earthquake, measuring an estimated 4.9 on the Richter scale, rocked an inland sea region in western Japan Tuesday, including Hiroshima, the Meteorological Agency said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage resulting from the tremor which occurred at 9:14 pm (1214 GMT).

Its epicenter was located in waters at the western tip of the inland sea, the agency said.

On March 24, the region, straddling the two main islands of Honshu and Shikoku, was jolted by a major earthquake registering 6.4, leaving two dead and 172 injured -- TOKYO (AFP)
