Mohammed Bin Rashid Programme for Leadership Development (MBRPLD), an innovative leadership program designed to develop national leaders capable of promoting the sustainable development of the UAE, has announced that it has recently completed the inaugural session of the new module "Understanding Communication Styles & Effective Self Management" for participants of the MBRPLD's Promising Leaders level. The new module has been customised by MBRPLD in collaboration with Duke Corporate Education (Duke CE) to specifically cater to the requirements of MBRPLD Promising Leaders Program.

The 70 participants of the Promising Leaders level actively participated in the four-day module, whose main objectives were to build understanding of how to communicate with greater impact; acquire skills in using tools for effective planning of meetings and presentations; develop greater awareness of how to support and influence others; and create effective routines to manage themselves and others. A variety of teaching methods were employed during the session, including video recordings for participants to reflect on and review their presentations, role playing, video examples, team building exercises and psychometric assessment.

Adel Al Shared, Executive Chairman of MBRPLD said: “Effective communication and self-awareness are critical aspects of leadership that should be thoroughly developed and we are pleased to have partnered with Duke in creating a new module that specifically targeted these key qualities. The four-day 'Understanding Communication Styles & Effective Self Management' module was packed with a series of high-impact activities and introduced key ideas that greatly helped participants boost their abilities and confidence as leaders."

Jassim Hassan Alshamali, Information System Security Officer, Dubai Municipality, participant of Promising Leaders level said: "The new module introduced several fresh ideas and new techniques that allowed us to improve our communication and self-management capabilities. MBRPLD has certainly devoted a whole lot of effort to prepare such exciting and informative modules, which shows that MBRPLD seeks to present the best for all its levels."

The new module required Promising Leaders level participants to work in small groups, while each participant also received one-on-one feedback from the Duke CE faculty. "Understanding Communication Styles & Effective Self Management" is the second of seven modules that are being conducted over a period of more than 24 months for the Promising Leaders level. The modules focus on three development areas: personal development, management acumen and technical knowledge. One or two development areas will form the core of each module, although all modules are integrated through a common framework, through projects and through extensive program support by MBRPLD.

The Promising Leaders is a level of MBRPLD that aims to prepare a vital, elite and strategic professional manpower reserve that is capable of sustaining the leadership requirements of Dubai Government in line with its strategic plan and international and regional aspirations. Initiated by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, MBRPLD is an innovative leadership program designed to develop future national leaders capable of promoting sustainable development in Dubai in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015.

The applications for the program were submitted through MBRPLD`s website (www.mbrpld.ae). Further details of the program and the evaluation process are also available on the website.
