European Union's Middle East envoy Miguel Moratinos arrived in Beirut Monday for talks with senior Lebanese officials on the peace process with Israel, said the Daily Star newspaper Tuesday.
The European peace coordinator would hold separate talks Tuesday with Lebanese president Emil Lahoud and prime minister Salim Hoss and parliament speaker Nabih Berri on implementation of security council resolutions 425 and 426.
Moratinos was quoted by Kuwait News Agency Monday as saying that the EU was currently exerting efforts to guarantee that Israel refrained from escalating the military situation in Lebanon.
Moratinos arrived in Beirut from Cairo where he held talks with Egyptian officials, discussing the current situation in the Middle East and ways to revive the peace process, added KUNA - (Several Sources)
