Singaporeans Around the World Come Together to Celebrate 44 Years of Independence
Marking its 44th year of independence today, Singapore is broadening its National Day celebrations to bring together Singaporeans from around the world through the theme
“Come Together, Reaching Out, Reaching Up,” which draws inspiration from the country’s pledge.
This year’s theme encourages Singaporeans to come together as ‘one united people’ by reaching out to all regardless of race, language or religion, and to reach up towards their hopes and aspirations.
Some of the events and activities that will take place in Singapore include a series of outreach projects and public events culminating in the much-awaited National Day Parade at the Marina Bay Floating Platform with its spectacular fireworks finale.
With over 1,000 Singaporeans living in the UAE, major National Day celebration events will take place in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai to allow them to rekindle their ties to Singapore and celebrate what it means to be Uniquely Singaporean.
Mr Tee Tua Ba, Singapore’s Ambassador to the UAE, said: "This National Day, the world including Singapore is facing one of the worst financial meltdowns and recessions ever seen. It is precisely during such hard times that we must leverage on our excellent bilateral relations with the UAE by enhancing and co-operating more closely together in the areas of trade and finance."
