1,600 UAE national students to earn ICDL certification at summer camps held at UAE University and Abu Dhabi University
ICDL GCC Foundation, the governing body and certification authority of the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) program in the Gulf States, has recently announced that more than 10,000 students are set to receive ICDL certificates during the ICDL summer training camps that will be held across the GCC region. The UAE ICDL summer training camps will see 1,600 students receive their ICDL certificates. The UAE ICDL summer training camp is supported by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Presidential Affairs Minister and by H.H. Sheikh Dhiyab bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Director of Abu Dhabi Electricity and Water Authority (ADWEA).
For the fifth consecutive year, H.H. Sheikh Mansoor and H.H. Sheikh Dhiyab have supported the ICDL Computer Summer Camps that offers students an excellent opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge of computers based on ICDL’s international certification. Subsequent to the student selection by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and Al Ain Educational Zone, this year’s ICDL summer camps were carried out in UAE University and Abu Dhabi University, facilitating the training of the 1,200 students from Al Ain and 400 students from Abu Dhabi.
"The ICDL annual summer camps have become one of the most anticipated summer activities all over the Gulf region. We are pleased to see thousands of students from all over the Gulf region continue to benefit from our program year after year, which speaks of the youth's strong interest towards the development of their computer skills. The continued success of this program has boosted our enthusiasm to sustain our efforts towards developing innovative ways to promote digital awareness throughout the society," said Jamil Ezzo, Director General, ICDL GCC Foundation.
"ICDL GCC Foundation is thankful to H.H Sheikh Mansour and H.H. Sheikh Dhiyab for their continued support and confidence in the ICDL program. We also wish to acknowledge the diligent effort of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, Al Ain Educational Zone, and our delivery partners UAE University and Abu Dhabi University. We also wish to thank our corporate sponsors Acer, Apple Computers, Epson and Imation for their generosity and for demonstrating their concern about digital literacy among our youth,” added Ezzo.
The participants of the summer program will undergo extensive IT training according to the globally recognised ICDL standard. By the end of summer, the participants are expected to achieve the ICDL certification, affirming that they have acquired relevant IT skills and knowledge. The skills they acquire will encourage students to become resourceful, self confident and assume more responsibility in their learning process.
As part of their contributions to maximising digital literacy, industry leaders such as Apple Computers, Acer, Epson and Imation are offering valuable prizes such as laptops, iPods, printers and peripherals to high-performing ICDL candidates. UAE University and Abu Dhabi University likewise reaffirmed their support to ICDL, pledging to promote the global standard among students and teachers within the community.
The ICDL syllabus offers students the opportunity to improve their academic performance, providing them a sense of achievement and empowerment as they seek higher levels of knowledge and expertise. The ICDL program is based on a recognized global standard focusing not only on computer skills, but also on how students should use computers ethically and safely.
ICDL is a vendor-neutral digital literacy program that is acknowledged through testing and proves that the certificate holder has fundamental skills in IT, using the computer, managing files, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and handling of the internet and e-mail. The ICDL certificate is recognized and endorsed by education ministries, universities and government organizations worldwide.
