The 5th annual Dubai Corporate Games, organized by High 5 Events at the American University in Dubai on March 19th and 20th, have just concluded. The event brought together staff and executives from over 40 companies, who competed in 30 different events. After 2 long days, Petrofac and Leo Burnett's athletes, along with the American University students, emerged as top performers.

In team sports, the AUD teams came on top, but just barely, with the University's footballers edging by surprise 1st year entrants, Future Pipe Industries. In basketball, the student cagers beat 2nd year finalists, Abela & Co. And finally, in volleyball, the AUD team, made up of university staff, maintained their stronghold on the title, winning it for the 5th consecutive year, this time against a very competitive team from Cisco. The Tug of War and Dragon Boat race were dominated by newcomers Beiersdorf, Pepsi International and Emirates Glass.

In the individual events, it was a more level playing field. OMD and Johnson & Johnson taking top honors in swimming, while General Electric, Pepsi and Leo Burnett were tops in the running events. Other individual events included tennis, table tennis, Playstation and backgammon.

By the end of the 2-day event though, Petrofac and Leo Burnett had collected just enough points with podium finishes to finish as best performing companies overall, closely followed by OMD and Pepsi International.

The Games ended with the traditional awards ceremony attended by the American University VP, Mr. Elias BouSaab, Mr. Bahi Rifai from High 5 Events, as well as representatives from the event sponsors (Bank of Sharjah, Nokia, Pepsi, Beiersdorf, Tecom, Rani, ITP and PlayStation). A minute of silence was observed in memory of Mr. Antoine Choueiri, chairman of Title Sponsors Choueiri Group.

The next edition of the Corporate Games is scheduled for March 2011. Most companies participating in 2010 will start yearlong training programs in preparation for the event. "We all had a fantastic time, and would definitely want to participate again next year" said Necip Camcigil from Johnson & Johnson. "These were a memorable 2 days. We had a lot of fun, not only competing with the other teams, but also amongst ourselves. We will definitely be involved in next year's event, and hopefully will be better prepared and have a larger presence" added Adeeb Samara from Nestle.
