Famous Moroccan tennis player Younes El Aynoui was eliminated from the US Open recently being held in the USTA National Tennis Centre in New York, which came as a surprise. Paradorn Srichaphan from Thailand defeated Younes El Aynaoui in three sets 6-4, 6-3, 6-0. Another surprise of the first round of the US Open was the elimination of the British Tim Henman and American Andy Roddick.
The elimination of the Moroccan tennis player El Aynoui was disappointing for the Moroccans since he is a very popular figure in Morocco. El Aynoui's became popular in Morocco especially after defeating World No. 1 Lleyton Hewit at Australian Open 2003. After this victory, King Mohammed gave El Aynoui a gold medal, which is the symbol of the nation's highest sporting honor. The centre court of the Royal Tennis Club in Marrakech is named after El Aynoui.
