The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) yesterday hosted its fourth Knowledge Champions Event aimed at strengthening the culture and concept of knowledge management across the DMA, the municipalities, and other government entities.  The event was attended by representatives from the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development, Department of Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, and Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs.

The DMA is the first government entity in Abu Dhabi to launch a Knowledge Management (KM) framework.  The KM project, named “Musharaka - Excellence through Knowledge” is focused on empowering employees to enable them to improve the quality and efficiency of services provided to residents.

“Musharaka” is a result of collaboration between the DMA and the Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Western Region Municipalities.  It aims to improve the management of municipal business and support a free flow of information sharing, create higher levels of awareness and continually update on best practices to enhance and achieve the employees’ professional and personal goals and objectives.

His Excellency Rashed Al Hajeri, Chairman of the DMA said: “To achieve success in any organisation and government or private entity, you need to embrace the changes the world is facing, especially in the IT sector.  We are seeking tocreate a more collaborative work ethic, where people use technology to share information and do their jobs more effectively, so they can better contribute to the government’s strategy and help to establish the concept of knowledge management. Events such as this offer a great opportunity to enhance information sharing amongst municipality employees and other governmental employees.”

Yesterday’s event, which was organised by the KM office at the DMA, provided an excellent example of how the ‘Musharaka’ project operates. By combining technology, culture and people, ‘Musharaka’ enabled DMA employees and their government colleagues to explore, learn and share knowledge to ultimately boost customer service.

“The human aspect is the most important factor of KM and is the basis of knowledge distribution.  This is why we use world-class provisions and practices of technology and tools that are essential to the employees’ performance and also suit their own learning and personal advancement goals,” said His Excellency Ahmed Shareef, Under Secretary of the DMA.
