A total of 2,597 Asian and Arab workers were deported last year by the UAE Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs after they were found working in violation of the country's entry and residence laws and labour regulations.

During 2001, the ministry suspended dealings with 447 FIRMS in Dubai and Northern Emirates for employing absconding and illicit workers, said Mohammed Rashid Al Abdouli, head of the ministry's labour inspection department. He added that 97 of the FIRMS later rectified their irregularities and were removed from the blacklist. (Albawaba.com)
