Thousands of miles with nothing but a big diesel engine and a roof-tent for company. That’s what lies in store for an intrepid team of Barclays bank executives, managing directors and staff members as they embark on a five month trek to Cape Town, South Africa, using you guessed it … four Nissan Patrols.
The Barclays Miles Ahead party left Canary Wharf in London on June 14th, with the aim of raising awareness for the various community partners, NGO’s and causes they support throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Nissan South Africa has customised the four patrols specifically for the trip. The vehicles will be used as a base for the teams throughout the expedition, so they have been kitted out to 5-star hotel standards with state of the art GPS tracking systems, masses of storage and an ingenious roof-top tent. All this kit is in addition to standard Patrol features such as anti-lock brakes, driver/passenger airbags, air conditioning and a full armory of off-road, mechanical weapons.
The teams participating will visit and take part in various community initiatives planned in each of the countries. Events, such as football, sailing, sponsored marathons, bungee jumping and white water rafting, will be held in Barclays’ presence countries to rally support and awareness for the charities.
As the convoy weaves through 13 different countries over 5 months, first crossing Europe and then into Africa via Egypt, it aims to interact and build relationships with the individual communities on route.
The expedition aims to arrive in Cape Town, South Africa by November.
