Official: Iran to respond militarily for US attack

Iran would respond militarily if the United States attacks the country to disrupt its nuclear plan, Iran's official IRNA news agency quoted a senior official as saying on Wednesday. "Naturally a military action will have a military response," chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said when asked if Iran would strike back if attacked by the United States. " ... our response will be appropriate."

The United States and other world powers suspect Iran wants to build atom bombs, a charge Tehran denies.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday dismissed the growing threat of more UN sanctions over Iran's nuclear works, saying it was Western powers that were isolated and not Tehran.

"If you (the West) think that by using the institutions you created and by adopting measures you will oblige the Iranian people to yield, then you are wrong," Ahmadinejad told crowds of supporters in the central city of Yazd.

"They sit down in a circle and swap papers. They say that they want to isolate the Iranian people... But it is the Iranian people who with the help of God have isolated you," he added, according to AFP.
