Iran stands third in the world among builders of large dams, 68 of which are currently under construction in the country, an official at the water ministry was quoted by Iran News Agency (IRNA) as saying.
The official said that Iran stands third after Turkey and China among the world's major builders of large dams.
He added that 68 large dams are currently being built in the country with a total reservoir capacity of 21 billion cubic meters of water.
The official told IRNA that construction of 121 more dams are under study, adding that five large dams are to undergo a refilling this year, while four dams which were refilled last year are to be officially inaugurated within the coming weeks - Albawaba.com
