Some 5,610 Saudi passports have been stolen or lost in the past eight months, most of them inside the kingdom, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
The London-based Asharq Al-Awsat said 710 passports were stolen or lost in Arab countries, mainly Egypt, Syria and Jordan, and also in foreign countries including Britain and the United States.
In Jordan, the stolen Saudi passports are bought by Iraqis who use them to travel to foreign countries to improve their living conditions, the paper said, quoting security sources. In other countries, the passports are normally used in criminal activity.
Saudi nationals and expatriates living in the kingdom have been cautioned to beware of fraudsters who might use their identity documents in "criminal and terrorist acts." (Albawaba.com)
