Oxford University is to become the first major university in the world to set up an institute devoted entirely to studying the Internet when it begins an initial research program in autumn, reported the official Iranian news agency IRNA.
The US$22 million Internet Institute will be based at
Baliol College, said the agency, adding that it would coordinate all of Oxford University's research on the Internet and commission projects examining its impact on society.
According to press reports, subjects that could be researched include e-government, the digital divide, global law enforcement, privacy and security, and the impact of the Internet on entertainment, music and the creative arts – Albawaba.com
