A Palestinian accused of collaborating with Israel was shot dead by gunmen in the West Bank late Sunday, according to Palestinian sources.
Khalil Qasem Khleif, 39, who belongs to the Ta’amrah tribes living in the Bethlehem area, was a fugitive in Beit Safafa in Jerusalem where he lived with his wife and two daughters under Israeli protection, said the sources.
He apparently was under surveillance and was killed in the Barid suburb in the town of Ram between Jerusalem and Ramallah.
His body was in Ramallah Hospital.
Meanwhile, the sources linked the termination of Khleif with the assassination of Hussein Ebayat, the Fateh leader who was killed in a helicopter attack in Bethlehem on Thursday. The sources said it was likely that the collaborator was the one who tipped the Israeli on the whereabouts of Ebayat.
