The Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) presented a political initiative to the Palestinian nationalist groups calling for a unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state on November 15. This date coincides with the a decision taken twelve years ago by the PNA in Algeria to declare an independent Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital.
The PFLP has said that under the current circumstances it is not acceptable for the Palestinian leadership to go back to the negotiating table on the basis of the Oslo accords and under the sole sponsorship of the United States.
The seven-point initiative called on the Palestinian people to fight for their right to self-determination, independence, and the return of refugees.
The Palestinian faction said that in order to achieve that, the Palestinians should establish an emergency government of national unity, sustain the Intifada and declare general mobilization of the Palestinians.
The front demanded that the UN ensure international protection for the Palestinians on a temporary basis.
They also urged the Palestinian leadership to freeze the implementation of Paris economic agreement with Israel, and set out to build an independent national economy.
Meanwhile, Fateh’s Higher Organizational Committee issued a statement calling for an escalation of the Intifada and for the widening of its scope to reach all the Palestinian towns and villages. The committee suggested that popular resistance committees, and coordination bodies be set up in all areas.
Fateh also called on the Palestinians not to fire their guns in the air during rallies and funerals in order not “to waste the bullets which are needed to defend our people.” The statement said that strikes should be limited to agreed on dates and during funerals of the martyred. Otherwise, the faction said, citizens should be provided with “a climate suitable for a normal life regarding aspects like business and education.”
Fateh stressed that the Palestinians should not accept to halt the Intifada as a precondition for the resumption of peace talks with Israel “because the Intifada has marked the beginning of a new era of a new political equation.”
For their part, the Islamic and nationalist factions issued a program for Intifada activities for the rest of the week as follows:
Monday/Tuesday: helping farmers to pick olives.
Wednesday: Peaceful rallies of women and children to head for the Red Crescent offices.
Thursday: Marking the anniversary of Balfour Declaration with demonstrations and protests.
Friday: National Unity rallies where Muslim clerics and Christian clergymen march to the Red Crescent offices.
