Wheelchair-bound Abdulhadi Daouk, an Emirati, has set up a company to provide information technology to other disabled people and give them a chance to become self-supporting. The Middle East's first ISO 9001 certified IT consultancy firm, e-Trans FZ-LLC, which will provide computer access to the physically challenged, opened its doors at Dubai Internet City (DIC) on Thursday, reported Gulf News.
At a press conference at the DIC, Daouk, the e-Trans CEO, was quoted by the Emirati daily as saying that his company would use a variety of technical aids for the disabled to help them overcome their handicaps. They include specially designed keyboards and other specialized equipment, plus special software.
"We are studying the needs of various disabilities to be able to offer the physically challenged a chance to learn and develop a career," Daouk said. "Using voice recognition, specially converted keyboards or other specialised equipment, the physically challenged can read, send e-mail and easily operate a computer either at home or at work.”
A business graduate with an MBA in computer science, Daouk has overcome his physical limitations. He said his company would provide training to the disabled, either individually or in groups, to give them marketable computer skills – Albawaba.com
