A top Palestinian official has said that all the Palestinian factions in the West bank and Gaza are unified in their vision of how the Intifada should be steered toward achieving its goals, stressing that the present phase depends wholly on throwing stones and peaceful demonstrations. He accused Israel of being “hasty to escalate the violence to military confrontations.”

“Israel is trying to drag us into an unbalanced battle,” said Rawhi Fatouh, secretary of the Palestinian Legislative Council, in a telephone interview with Albawaba.com.

He said that Israeli forces are imposing a siege on all the Palestinian towns, and bombard them frequently, and the attack on Beit Jala and Hebron is not the only example, he said.

“Last night they shelled Khan Yunis, although there were no accusations of Palestinian firing at the nearby Ghosh Katif settlement,” he said.

Fatouh, who is also the Deputy Commissioner for Popular Organizations at Fateh movement, said that Israel is using made-up fabrications to justify its military aggressions. He denied as baseless Israeli accusations that Palestinians threw explosives at the Martyrs’ Junction, near Netzarim settlement in Gaza.

The official asserted that the Palestinian leadership has a feasible mechanism to enhance the Palestinians’ ability to go on with their Intifada. He said all the PNA’s agencies are working to provide the people with all their daily and basic needs.
