The late Palestinian Liberation Front chief Abu Abbas is due to buried in Syria after Israel said it would not permit him to be laid to rest in the West Bank, a leader of the faction said.
"After Israel refused that the martyr Abu Abbas be buried in Ramallah we have been in touch with several Arab countries," Wasel Abu Yussef, leader of the PLF in the West Bank, tolf AFP Monday.
"Syria agreed ten minutes ago that his body be transferred to Damascus and buried in the martyrs' cemetery at Yarmuk.
"According to the Red Cross the transfer is expected within hours," he further said.
Abbas, whose real name was Mohammed Abbas, died last Monday in a US military prison in Iraq.
An autopsy carried out by a US Navy pathologist confirmed he died of a "heart attack", but his widow and the PLO have called for an independent investigation into his death. (Albawaba.com)
