Police in southwest Nigeria said Monday they had uncovered a gruesome ritual killing, in which a mother and daughter were beheaded and their bodies mutilated.
Kehinde Yusuf, 58, and her 19-year-old daughter, Funke, were killed at their home at Ilisan-Remo, in Ogun State, some time last week, Ogun State police spokesman Rufus Adegoke told AFP.
The bodies were discovered last Thursday. The heads, breasts, genitals and arms of both women had been removed, Adegoke said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Bola Bolanta said the killing appeared to have been well organized and said people in the community were apparently fearful of talking about it.
Adegoke said that several people had been detained while investigations continued.
