The press attaché of the British Embassy in Tehran, Greenstock, on Wednesday dismissed as 'unreal' the claims attributed to the British charge d'affaires in Iran.
A Tehran-based daily in its Wednesday edition quoted British charge d'affaires to Tehran as telling students, who had staged a sit-in at the UK embassy to Tehran to protest London's policies in support of Israel, that "care for [the] violation of political freedoms in your country instead of intervening in the Palestinian issue."
Greenstock told the Islamic Republic News Agency IRNA that none of the Tehran embassy staff were present at the meeting of the students Tuesday and that no member of the British embassy had said a thing.
He made clear that his speech had been in line with the official statement of the British Embassy to Tehran and London believed that the issue of Palestine and the Middle East are now given prime attention by world leaders.
The official added that Britain strongly condemns Israel’s actions in Palestine, calling on Tel Aviv to return to its 1967 borders as soon as possible and to observe the UN Security Council resolutions, IRNA reported.
He said, "We do not at all say that Iranian people should not be uninterested in the issue of Palestine; rather, we believe that the issue of the Middle East is now the most important problem of the world."
He added that the British charge d'affaires had officially protested the news released by the daily. (Albawaba.com)
