Visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin said in Havana Friday that he was confident "for the moment" about the future of Moscow's relations with Washington following the presidential election of George W. Bush.
"For the moment, we have no reason to be worried about future relations," Putin told a press conference called to sum up the first post-Soviet Russian leader's visit to Moscow's Cold-War era ally, Cuba.
While noting he has already congratulated Bush on the win, Putin added, "much will depend on the policy of the new administration.
"Judging from the professional team of advisors surrounding Bush, we have reason to expect relations to develop positively," he said.
Putin's comments were his first public appraisal of Bush's narrow defeat of Democratic US Vice President Al Gore -- HAVANA (AFP)
