As the official telecom provider of the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar Telecommunication’s (QTel), supported by Huawei Technologies (“Huawei”) effectively sustained peak telecom traffic on all fixed, mobile and broadcast services.

QTel demonstrated the superiority of the country’s network, cementing Qatar’s capabilities to host large scale regional and international events. Huawei, a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, worked with QTel to set up the state of the art telecom infrastructure – Qatar invested around US$ 138 million (QR500 million) in new technologies to ensure subscribers and visitors enjoy the latest applications and services.

Huawei’s industry leading transmission network architecture like the Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing, DWDM, and the new generation soft switches were the main systems that were deployed in Qatar. This enabled QTel’s customers’ access to advanced services while enhancing the security and quality of existing services.

“We are pleased to provide QTel with reliable telecommunication services,” said Tian Feng, president, Huawei Technologies, Middle East and North Africa Operations. “Partnering with QTel has been a rewarding experience for Huawei. We have applied our expertise and worked closely with the operator to ensure networks work smoothly during peak traffic season.”

QTel invested in a state-of-the-art high-speed optical capacity network to support high definition and standard definition video signals. Huawei completed the installation ahead of schedule and handled the operations and maintenance services of telecom networks during the Asian Games.
