Qtel has hosted a major ceremony to mark the completion of the 2009 Summer Internship programme, a major facility that enables young people inside and outside Qatar to get their first taste of working life.

In total, 101 high school and undergraduate students took part in the programme during a three month period from June through August. Participants were able to work within a range of Qtel’s business units, enabling them to specialise in Technical and Non-technical work areas depending on their current area of study and future career plans.

The students, who come from a variety of disciplines and academic backgrounds, were mentored by Qtel staff, and provided with the opportunity to apply classroom theory in a professional environment.

This year’s internship program has proven to be the most successful to date with tremendous interest shown by students wishing to participate in Qtel’s program. The student candidates were nominated by the Ministry of Labour along with local and international institutions.

Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani, Executive Director, Group Human Resources, Qtel said:
“We are continually impressed with the calibre of students who join us for these internships, and the hard work and dedication that they consistently demonstrate. We endeavour to provide these future young leaders with real life work experience that will add value to their professional lives, recognising the importance of encouraging the next generation.”

“We also hope that at least some of them decide to pursue careers at Qtel, which is focused on providing an environment conducive to learning and achievement. In fact, numerous interns have already been involved in this internship program” he added.

Qtel’s student internship program was established in 2005 with 25 student participants. This number has increased considerably over the years.

The internship program provides students with significant professional experience, life experience and references, providing an invaluable addition on their resumes.
