Qtel has become the first company in Qatar – and one of a select number of Gulf companies – to win the HR Leadership Award from the World HRD Congress, an international honour for companies that excel in the field of people management.
The award was received by Mohanna Al-Nuaimi, Chief HR Officer of Qtel International, at a major ceremony in Mumbai, India, where Qtel was acknowledged for its leadership and contribution to the field of human resources.
Among the key competencies that Qtel HR was judged on were Strategic Perspective, Business Goal Management, Team and People Management, Change Agent, Customer Focus, Business Acumen, Performance Management and Achieving Excellence.
According to the judges’ report, “The position that Qtel occupies in the industry is a strategic and iconic one. As a thinker and doer, the company is a role model and a believer in change. This award is an appreciation for your good work and contribution to best practice human resource management.”
In particular, Qtel was acknowledged for implementing practical, achievable and relevant HR strategies to support its ambitious business goals.
Mohanna Al-Nuaimi, Chief HR Officer of Qtel International, said: “We believe that a comprehensive workforce strategy should be at the core of a successful organization’s DNA. As part of the vision to position Qtel as a leading global telecommunications company, and a provider of world-class communication services here in Qatar, we have developed processes to align staff performance with business performance. This ensures that employees have a clear perspective as to how they personally contribute to the wider goals and objectives of the company.”
A major part of Qtel’s success in recent months has been the strategic decision to move from “Employee Satisfaction” measures to an “Employee Engagement” approach, where the company looks to empower and involve employees in the success of the wider organisation.
Even as The Qtel Group has extended its presence into 17 countries, the core focus has remained on the importance of managing the wider international network of employees around the core business strategy.
The World HRD Congress is a not-for-profit, governed by the Global Advisory Council. It is a global professional body that assigns the task of choosing an award winner to a global research cell of professionals from different parts of the world. This Cell is chaired by a Chairman who reviews recommendations after which the Jury meets in Asia and identifies award winners.
