Volunteers Distribute Information and Water to Mall Visitors to Help Celebrate the Opening of The Fahad Bin Jassim Kidney Centre
Qtel volunteers turned up at malls across Doha over the weekend, to promote kidney health for World Kidney Day.
World Kidney Day is a global health awareness campaign focusing on the importance of our kidneys and reducing the frequency and impact of kidney disease worldwide. It is marked annually on the second Thursday of March.
The Qtel volunteers handed out special information leaflets on kidney health, containing valuable tips and advice about keeping kidneys healthy.
They also distributed free bottles of water, to remind visitors of the importance of drinking enough water every day to ensure health and vitality.
Qtel’s volunteer activity took place at Villaggio, City Centre and Landmark malls, reaching out to thousands of people over the course of the weekend. It followed on from the opening of the new “Fahad Bin Jassim Kidney Centre” in Qatar, which has been fully-funded by Qtel.
The opening of the centre, which will provide dialysis facilities for people suffering acute and chronic kidney disease, is in line with Qtel’s promise to “Fuel The Senses” of the Qatari community. Managed by Hamad Medical Corporation, the new Kidney Centre offers a modern and spacious area for patients, with 80 stations and 20 private rooms.
Doctors offer a range of advice for people to improve their kidney health, including the following top five tips:
1. Keep fit and active – increase daily physical activity.
2. Keep regular control of blood sugar level, blood lipids and anaemia
3. Monitor blood pressure and reduce it if necessary
4. Eat healthy and keep your weight in check
5. Do not smoke
Qtel supported the voluntary initiative as part of its ongoing community engagement programme, “For Qatar, Hand in Hand.” As part of this programme, the company is involved in a wide range of health-related activities.
