The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) recently started rehabilitation and maintenance works on Al Balabseh Souq, Al Bukharieh Souq, and Philadelphia Souq, fixing the damage caused by the recent fire.
The Head of Al Madeena district, Engineer Tahseen Al ‘Abadi, affirmed that GAM had an agreement with experienced contractors to complete the rehabilitation and maintenance works on the markets in accordance with engineering specifications that ensure public safety for construction crews at the site, as quickly as possible.
He added that the contractor recently started implementing the first phase of work, which includes removing all the debris, and then executing the rehabilitation and maintenance works on the location.
Eng. Al ‘Abadi stated, “The rehabilitation and renovation works will take place under the supervision of the pertinent Greater Amman Municipality engineering departments and the Public Safety Committee that include H.E. the Governor of Amman and engineering cadre from the Royal Scientific Society.”
He indicated that teams would be working round the clock, according to GAM directives, to complete the rehabilitation works as quickly as possible, before Eid Al Fitr, so that traders can get back to work as usual.
Eng. Al ‘Abadi commended the cooperation of all relevant security agencies under the immediate supervision of the Governor of Amman, and the direct follow up on the 3 markets and interest shown with regards all situations that could arise in the course of the renovation and rehabilitation works.
From another angle, GAM arranged with the traders to form a committee of traders, to coordinate with the Head of Al Madeena district, Eng. Tahseen Al ‘Abadi, and to liaise with GAM. This is sure to speed up the rehabilitation and renovation works that all 3 markets are to undergo, and to deal with any emergency situations that may arise during the work process.
Eng. Al ‘Abadi affirmed that all committees formed to solve the problems of Al Balabseh Souq, Al Bukharieh Souq, and Philadelphia Souq were dedicated to keeping the traders informed of the latest news, by means of periodic meetings with the traders’ committee.
On another level, Eng. Al ‘Abadi explained that the Electric Company would reestablish a first-rate electricity network for the 3 markets that are in accordance with public safety measures.
Eng. Al ‘Abadi revealed that GAM, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Civil Defense, will begin implementing, next week, a campaign on all shops on Talal Street to ensure that the necessary public safety requirements are available, thereby avoiding such a disaster from occurring again.
