The American army arrested former Iraqi general Subhi Kamal Erzeyek Sunday morning in the northwestern town of Hit, according to his nephew.
AFP cited 23-year-old Hosham Khaled as saying, "My uncle, who was a director of the Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Brigades in Najaf, was arrested at 5:00 a.m. (0100 GMT) in the house of a friend in Hit, since he fled his own home because of the searches."
The Al-Quds Brigades was established by former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein at the beginning of the second Palestinian uprising in September 2000.
The group was one of a handful of paramilitary organizations that put up strong resistance to the US-led invading forces in Iraq. (Albawaba.com)
