Ten Tunisian pilgrims were killed and 15 injured, two seriously, in a road accident in Saudi Arabia overnight, the Tunisian news agency TAP said Sunday.

The accident occurred when the bus transporting the pilgrims between the western Saudi towns of Jeddah and Medina overturned, the agency said.

Saudi Arabia has one of the world's highest rates of road accidents, mostly due to speeding, according to the transport ministry. More than 78,000 people have died in Saudi road crashes since 1970, official figures show.

On Saturday, a Saudi newspaper reported that 26 people from Syria and Jordan were killed when a mini-bus collided with a truck and both vehicles burst into flames on a Saudi road near the Kuwaiti border -- TUNIS (AFP)
