Former Syrian Prime Minister Mahmud al-Zu’bi, expelled from the ruling Baath party and facing corruption charges, has tried to kill himself, the London daily Azzaman reported in its Saturday edition.

Quoting "informed Syrian sources," the paper added that Zu’bi has been hospitalized following his suicide attempt.

The paper also reported that two former ministers have been summoned for questioning over "administrative, financial and legal irregularities during their terms in Zu’bi's government."

They are the former transport minister, Mufid Abdelkarim, currently in Morocco, and the former information minister, Mohammad Salman, called back from Paris.

Separately, the paper reports that the former education minister, Ghassan Halabi, is receiving treatment after heart problems -- DUBAI (AFP)
