The 10-kilometer stretch of road from Port Rashid intersection to Al Ittihad Road has been renamed Sheikh Rashid Road, after the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
This was done according to the instructions of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, according to Gulf News.
This road, which crosses areas in Bur Dubai and Deira, has already been provided with new signboards.
Qassim Sultan, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the names of the side roads and Garhoud road, also, have been changed to Sheikh Rashid Road, to pay tribute to Sheikh Rashid and immortalize his memory.
