Dubai policemen will be trying out a new means of transportation in coming weeks--roller skates--in an attempt to help officers prevent crime with more ease.

The unique move comes as Dubai officials seek new ways to help fight crime in the Emirate. The most recent plan will supposedly allow police to pursue criminals in the narrow alleyways of Dubai.

The Naif Police station has therefore formed a three-member security team, all of whom will make patrols on roller skates. The 'Naif Panthers,' as they will be called, will wear T-shirts with the Dubai Police emblem on them, and monitor the streets on their new transport mechanisms.

Major Khalid Khalfan Al Mansouri, Acting Director of Naif Police Station, said that the team's formation was in response to the directions of Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and Brigadier Dr Jamal Mohammed Al Marri, Deputy Commander-in-Chief.

The Naif Panthers have reportedly undergone "extensive training on roller-skates" according to Khaleej Times. If the experiment works, more roller-skating police will be dispatched to other areas if the city including its souks, or marketplaces.
