ALBAWABA- At the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump was formally nominated for the presidency and announced his choice for Vice President, Senator J.D. Vance from Ohio.
"I have decided that the most suitable person to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance," Trump declared.
Speculation had been rife following Trump's earlier announcement that he would reveal his VP pick at the RNC. The selection carries significant weight, especially after a recent shooting incident that nearly struck Trump.
The close call underscores the importance of the vice-presidential role, a position just a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Trump emphasized the necessity of having a qualified candidate who could step into the presidential role if needed. "You need somebody that can be good just in case, that horrible just in case," he said in an interview with “The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show” in May.
Hours before the shooting, he reiterated to Fox News Channel’s Harris Faulkner, “It’s a very important position, especially if something bad should happen — that’s the most important.”
Trump's shortlist included candidates with varying levels of governing experience. Prior to the shooting, Trump had expressed a desire to reveal his pick dramatically at the convention, aiming to make the event more "interesting" and "exciting."
He likened the process to a sophisticated version of “The Apprentice,” the reality TV show he once hosted.
