ALBAWABA- Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia would consider using nuclear weapons if it received reliable information about a comprehensive land, air, or sea attack targeting the country.
He emphasized that even a conventional attack on Russia, if supported by a nuclear power, would be considered a joint assault.
Speaking at a Security Council meeting on Wednesday, Putin outlined proposed changes to Russia's nuclear doctrine. He clarified that any aggression by a non-nuclear state, with the backing of a nuclear state, would be treated as a combined attack on Russia.
Additionally, Putin confirmed that Russia and its ally Belarus reserve the right to use nuclear weapons in response to any form of aggression, including conventional attacks.
Putin's remarks underscored Russia's preparedness to use nuclear force if its sovereignty or territory is threatened, marking a stark warning as global military tensions continue to rise.
In a meeting with senior editors from international news agencies last June —the first such in-person discussion since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022—Putin reiterated that Russia would not rule out the use of nuclear weapons if its sovereignty or territory were threatened.
He further emphasized that Russia's nuclear doctrine has been carefully calibrated to meet modern military threats, stressing that the conditions for transitioning to nuclear force are "clearly fixed."
