ALBAWABA - The Russian Defense Ministry announced its air defense systems had destroyed 36 Ukrainian drones in an overnight attack on several regions in Russia’s southwest.
The defense ministry announced on Telegram that 15 drones were destroyed over the Kursk area, which borders Ukraine, and nine over the Lipetsk region, which is several hundred kilometers south of Moscow.
"Air defense systems on duty destroyed fifteen UAVs over the Kursk region, nine UAVs over the Lipetsk region, four UAVs each over Voronezh and Bryansk regions, and two UAVs each over Oryol and Belgorod regions," the ministry said in a Telegram post.
Four drones were destroyed over the Voronezh and Bryansk areas in southern Russia, with two each over the neighboring Oryol and Belgorod regions. The governors of the Lipetsk and Bryansk regions stated on their Telegram channels that there were no casualties or significant damage as a consequence of the attacks.
Russian officials frequently withhold information about the extent of the harm caused by Ukrainian assaults. Reuters could not independently confirm the reports. Ukraine also did not immediately respond.
Kyiv has stated that the attacks on Russia's military, transportation, and energy infrastructure are in reaction to Moscow's attacks on Ukrainian territory since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
