ALBAWABA- In a tragic escalation of hostilities, at least 14 people, including two children, lost their lives in a Ukrainian shelling attack on the Russian city of Belgorod, as reported by Russia's emergencies ministry. 

The assault, described as "massive," targeted downtown Belgorod, leading to extensive damage to around 40 civilian facilities and causing 10 fires that have now been extinguished.

 This devastating incident follows Russia's recent major air assault on Ukraine, resulting in over 39 deaths and 150 injuries. 

President Vladimir Putin has been briefed on the Belgorod attack, prompting the dispatch of the health ministry and emergencies ministry rescuers to aid those affected. The Kremlin vows retaliation, heightening concerns over the deepening conflict between the two neighborly countries.
