ALBAWABA - A spokesperson of Yulia Navalnaya, widow of the late Alexey Navalny, stated that a Moscow court had ordered the arrest of Navalnaya in absentia.
Russian state news agency RIA Novosti revealed that Navalnaya has also been added to an international wanted list. She is being prosecuted for "participation in an extremist organization," under the Basmanny District Court in Moscow.
Additionally, the court granted the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation's request to hold Navalnaya. According to a news statement, the term of custody would begin when she was possibly extradited to Russian territory or when she was detained on Russian soil. Navalnaya has been living in self-exile since 2021.
Alexey Navalny died on February 16 in a Siberian jail colony where he was serving a 19-year term after being convicted of organizing an extremist society, sponsoring extremist activists, and other offenses in August.
He was already serving an 11-and-a-half-year term in a maximum-security jail for fraud and other allegations he had always rejected and said were politically motivated.
Since Navalny's death, Navalnaya and her two children have resided in an unidentified place outside Russia. On Tuesday, she wrote on the X that the court decision against her should not divert her followers from the larger anti-Putin movement.
Three days after Navalny died in detention, the 47-year-old Navalnaya took over the mantle of leadership, delivering a nine-minute video statement pledging to continue his struggle to Putin's authoritarian reign.
"I will continue Alexei Navalny’s work … I want to live in a free Russia, I want to build a free Russiaز I call on you to stand with me. To share not only grief and endless pain … I ask you to share with me the rage. The fury, anger, hatred for those who dare to kill our future" Navalnaya said.
