Sam Sunderland and Fahad Abdulla won the MotoX and Modified Cars competition held to observe the International Day Against Drugs at Dubai Festival City over the weekend.

The range of activities, organized by the Emirates Motor Sports Federation (EMSF) in collaboration with Dubai Police, emphasized on family and happiness coupled with sport to drive home the anti-drug message.

Sam Sunderland rode home with the trophy on the Open category of the Al Marakeb sponsored Motocross competition while Obaid Al Ketbi triumphed in the Quad category. Over a hundred bikes and quads participated in the weekend event which has now become an annual feature following its debut last year on Mamzar beach.

Fahad Abdulla drove off with the Best Car trophy in the Modified Cars competition. Following were the other winners:

EMSF General Manager Ahmed Al Sherif gave away the prizes to the winners. Eleven lucky visitors who participated in the voting process to select the winning cars in the five categories in the Modified Cars Show won a mobile phone each.

Internationally, the world anti narcotics day was held under the auspices of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime while in Dubai the Dubai Police General Directorate of Anti Narcotics spearheaded the campaign under the slogan "My Family, My Happiness."

Like past years, the EMSF joined hands with Dubai Police to promote sports as a means of leading a healthy and competitive life with the aim of informing the public, particularly young people, about the harmful effects that drugs under international control can have on their health.

The Emirates Driving Institute too joined hands with the EMSF and showcased safety demonstrations and its new 'blur vision goggles' to educate the public on the importance of safe driving habits and the effects of driving after taking medication.

Drugs under international control include amphetamine-type stimulants, cannabis, coca/cocaine, hallucinogens, opiates and hypnotic sedatives, all of which have immediate physical effects.
